BIOGRAPHY Suellen Kennewell is a Melbourne based artist whose practise is primarily based around Drawing. She Majored in this discipline at Prahran College of Advanced Education in the early 80’s and Graduated with Honours. She was taught by Pam Hallandal (1929-2018) who was an esteemed draftsperson, printmaker, sculptor and educator. The influence of Hallandal’s teaching still underpins the foundations of Suellen’s practice today. Hallandal’s greatest legacy to her students was teaching them to interpret space through an understanding of structure. This element features strongly in Suellen’s work, whose recent themes are dominated by a mix of the burlesque, humour and grief. Working in ink, charcoal, graphite and pastel, she also uses other experimental mediums and techniques together with collage and frottage.
